1. We Used to Live Her by Marcus Kliewer
This is hands down one of the best books I’ve read this year, and that’s saying something—I’m already 38 books in!
Mallory Quinn, fresh out of rehab, takes a job as a nanny for five-year-old Teddy, the son of Ted and Caroline Maxwell. She quickly settles into the job, loving her new routine and bonding with the sweet but shy boy, who is constantly drawing in his sketchbook. At first, his drawings are innocent, but one day, Teddy sketches a disturbing image of a man dragging a woman’s lifeless body through the woods. As his drawings grow increasingly dark and unnervingly detailed, Mallory suspects they may depict a long-unsolved murder. Despite how unbelievable it seems, she becomes determined to uncover the truth and protect Teddy from whatever sinister force may be influencing him.
2. Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak
You have to get a copy of this book—it even has creepy kids’ drawings that will send chills down your spine!

3. The Broken Girls by Simone St James
The gothic atmosphere pulls you into another time and place, creating the perfect blend of suspense with a touch of paranormal magic sprinkled throughout!
In 1950 Vermont, Idlewild Hall is a boarding school for girls deemed unwanted—troublemakers, illegitimate, or too smart for their own good. The school is rumored to be haunted, and four roommates form a close bond until one mysteriously vanishes. Fast forward to 2014, journalist Fiona Sheridan is still haunted by her older sister’s murder, whose body was found near the ruins of Idlewild Hall two decades earlier. Though her sister’s boyfriend was convicted, Fiona believes something is amiss. When she learns Idlewild Hall is being restored, Fiona begins investigating, uncovering shocking secrets that tie her sister’s death to long-buried mysteries.
4. Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough
The twist is absolutely jaw-dropping—you won’t see it coming! And if you don’t have time to read the book, the Netflix show is a must-watch. It perfectly captures the story! Watch the trailer below.
Louise, a single mom and secretary, finds herself stuck in a routine until a chance encounter at a bar leads to a flirtatious connection with a stranger, David. However, her excitement quickly fades when she discovers that David is her new boss—and married. David insists their kiss was a mistake but remains drawn to her. Soon, Louise befriends David’s wife, Adele, a mysterious and beautiful woman who seems perfect on the surface but is clearly terrified of her husband. As Louise gets closer to both of them, she begins to unravel dark secrets lurking beneath their picture-perfect marriage, leading to a shocking twist that challenges everything she thought she knew.
5. Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney
I’ve recommended this book to so many people, and they’ve all loved it!
Adam and Amelia Wright’s marriage has been strained for years. When they win a weekend getaway to a remote location in Scotland, they hope it might be the chance to fix what’s broken. Adam, a screenwriter with face blindness, cannot recognize the faces of those closest to him, including his wife. Every anniversary, they exchange traditional gifts, and Amelia writes him a letter she never allows him to read—until now. As tensions rise during their trip, it becomes clear that this getaway was no random prize. One of them has been hiding dark secrets, and the weekend will be a turning point in their marriage—perhaps even a deadly one.
